Greetings friends,

How is your 2021 so far? With covid-19 vaccinations ramping up and spring around the corner, things are looking a lot brighter than they were this time almost a year ago, and I'm feeling optimistic.

We are looking forward to better days, but we are also appreciating the good things that the past year has brought us. We've accomplished a lot together, and I for one have learned the power of a community - when we feel less alone, we can get through the hard times and be better for it on the other side.

I wanted to thank again all those who donated to our Giving Tuesday 2020 Campaign, which was a huge success. You have made it possible for us not only to survive this year, but thrive. We look forward to working on projects that will further level the playing field for women in maritime and support the worldwide maritime community of women and men alike.

I have the honor of publishing the story of a new contributor, LCDR Erica Reid-Dixon, and I would also like to highlight the contributions of Buki Hough with her new Instagram account, Melanated Mariners. The marine industry in this country needs, now more than ever, adequate representation of Black voices among seafarers. We are so encouraged to see increased representation and inclusion, and Sea Sisters Inc. is committed to pushing that trend forward. February may be Black History Month, but I invite you to think of every month as Black History Month, as Black history is American history.

Furthermore, I’m honored to have been the closing speaker at this year's California Maritime Academy WIML Conference, and I plan to publish an article shortly detailing my speech and contributions to this year’s conference. Thanks as always to Vineeta Dhillon and the WIML planning committee for putting together a great event! I’m hoping that we can all see each other in person at next year’s conference.
